Recording Mics:

Warm Audio Fen-Tone Ribbon Mic:

As per the Warm Audio website, Warm Audio has been faithfully recreating the vintage experience, the features, and most importantly, the sound that has delivered music's biggest hits. The Fen-Tone Ribbon mic captures tight lows, lush mids, and smooth highs without harshness. Its figure-8 polar pattern and ability to handle high SPLs capture the most sought-after tones for electric guitar cabs, drum overheads, and more.

With premium components like a custom Japanese ribbon, Neodymium magnet, and custom CineMag USA transformer, plus a selectable 26 dB in-line preamp, the Fen-tone ensures pristine sound even with low-gain preamps.

Sennheiser MD421 II:

As per the Sennheiser website, The MD 421 II continues the tradition of the MD 421, which has been one of Sennheiser's most popular dynamic mics for over 35 years. The large diaphragm, dynamic element handles high sound pressure levels, making it a natural for recording guitars and drums. The MD 421's full-bodied cardioid pattern and five-position bass control make it an excellent choice for most instruments, as well as group vocals or radio broadcast announcers.

Shure SM57:

As per the Shure website, The Shure SM57 Dynamic Instrument Microphone is the most popular choice for a professional musician who wants to mic up their amplified or acoustic instrument such as a guitar amp or bass amp, saxophone, trumpet or drums. It is used on stages and in studios around the world. The contoured frequency response with its presence rise, helps the instrument cut better through the main mix. The extremely effective cardioid pickup pattern isolates the main sound source and will simply record what you point at it while rejecting sound from the rear.

Personal Comment:

Home Recording Studio gear is a personal thing but certain bits of kit will always be a "must-have" and this website touches on some of the equipment I have come to use in my own recording work.

As I developed my small recording studio I wanted a small number of mics that could cover different instruments, sound levels and frequencies. Overall I find the Sennheiser 421 (II) and the Shure SM57 excellent all-rounders. I purchased the Fen-Tone Ribbon mic to achieve that more organic rounded warm tone for which it does a good job.

Talking about studio gear is a limited conversation and so click on the video link above to view and hear the equipment and specifications. If you want to know more about this product drop me an email.
