MXR M-291 Dyna Comp Mini Pedal:
What does MXR say. The Dyna Comp Mini Compressor combines the best of classic tone and modern convenience in a housing that’s nearly half the size of the original. Thanks to its rare CA3080 “metal can” integrated circuit (IC), this pedal yields quieter operation, greater transparency, and increased dynamic range. An all-new Attack switch toggles between slow and fast attack times.
Personal Comment:
Before I make my own personal comment I will preface this with a general statement so the reader understands what I'm seeking to convey. EFX pedals are very much a personal choice although clearly, some pedals have more features than others and build cost will have a bearing on what you are getting for your money. Another point to raise is that, pedals may react differently depending on the amplifier in use or whether the pedals are going straight into the front of an amp or are routed via an amplifiers effects loop.
So, I bought the MXR Dyna Comp compressor mini pedal because I was already familiar with it and again I chose the mini size as at that time I wanted a very small footprint of a pedal board. Compressors take a bit of time to understand how best to use them in a given situation. Often used to balance or smooth-out opposing frequencies such as playing rhythm guitar on a Telecaster or helping to promote sustain in lead work. I still have this pedal and use it when required. A side note here that may be of interest to some. As I continued to improve my small recording studio set-up I would go on to purchase another portable compressor but specifically designed for studio recording work and that was the Neve 88C Compressor unit which you can see on my recording page.
