Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s Custom Shop Top Honey Burst: (2025)

The Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s "Custom Shop Top" Honey Burst has been designed with the intention of grouping together the features that typify this period for Gibson. Without being a specific vintage reissue, this model delivers that definitive Les Paul experience. The mahogany body of this model has zero weight relief and this particular guitar comes in at just shy of 9.2 lbs, so not too bad and certainly fine for me sitting doing studio recordings.
Some quick specifications are a rosewood neck, scale length 24.75", with a 12" Radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, Graph Tech nut, the machine heads are the kidney bean shaped Grover's, ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic Bridge, 4 Gold Top-hat control knobs with silver reflector disc inlays, Orange-drop capacitors and 500k control pots, the hum-bucking pick-ups are 60s burst-buckers housed in cream ring-mounts, and the guitar is finished in a gloss nitro-cellulose lacquer. The guitar comes with the typical Gibson hard shell case.
Personal Comment:
The Les Paul Standard has never actually been a favourite of mine. I did own one for a short period of time back in the early 70s but never got on with it. However, as my music journey today is about recording, I noticed the need to have a guitar that would lend itself to smooth flowing lead runs with plenty sustain. Now, while there are many ways to achieve that without buying more guitars, I was however drawn to the "Honey Burst" model as it reminded me of "Peter Green's" famous "Greeny" Les Paul and without doubt after checking a few reviews, those Burstbucker pick-ups sounded just the ticket.
This particular guitar came on the market at a very good sale offer and if that was not enough, I was also being offered a very good trade-in deal on another guitar I was looking sell, and so the rest is history. Despite being more of a Fender guy, this Les Paul Standard 60s is a fabulous guitar to play and the tones are just everything I was looking for. I have done a few videos comparing the Les Paul up against the Gibson ES 339 with its Classic + Humbuckers and up against the Les Paul Gold Top with its P90 pick-ups - check-out the videos below by clicking on the pictures.
So, for a die-hard Fender user this Les Paul guitar is a keeper and is being regularly used in my recording work. Other than the weight which does not bother me I have no complaints, it plays beautifully and sounds great. If you want to know more about this guitar drop me an email.
